Brownie Fix Book Review

This book kind of scared me, to be honest. I'm pregnant with my first child (and perhaps only, but I digress) and the sometimes painful experiences that the character goes through made me wonder what I will be going through in another six months.

Though I can take solace in the fact that I apparently won't be alone.

The humour that the author also interspersed throughout the book also gave me hope that it's not all bad. That even if difficult moments come to pass, there are good things that happen as well. I found the book was enlightening and I admire the author for working through her own difficulties by writing it.

Kat Fight Book Review

Let me start off by saying that I've been a fan of Dina's since I read One Pink Line earlier this year. Quite frankly, I don't know how she finds the time to do everything she does and still write such great and interesting books!

She has a great balance of humour, wit and a great heroine that I'm pretty sure  most of us can identify with in one way or another. I love how approachable her characters are and the story just flows. I couldn't put this book down and am really pleased that I had the chance to read it.

I'm now just anxiously awaiting for book number three!

Dina Silver is a writer, red wine drinker, cheese fry lover, and future cat hoarder. She currently lives with her family in suburban Chicago. Inspired by how she met her husband, Kat Fight is Dina’s second novel.

Twenty-Nine and a Half Reasons Book Review

A cute little tale of adventure, mystery, romance and humour, this book definitely captured my attention and I will definitely be looking up the other books in the series. It's unfortunate that I hadn't read the first book before this one and that I'll have to wait to read the next one until next year, but I definitely think the wait will be worth it.

A Year to Remember Book Review

What a great book with a main character who is coming into their own, something most of us have had to go through. I really loved that she was a character that I could very much relate to. The angst of living, trying to find love, love oneself and feel happy is something that is very prominent in a lot of lives and this author really developed the character in a very approachable way that was truly enjoyable.

Thanks to Shelly for this great read that I'm sure many will enjoy!

Shelly Bell started reading at three years old. In elementary school, the librarian gave her books to test out for the school library. As a teenager, she spent her allowance each week on romance novels, enjoying both young adult and adult romance.
Married to Jason in 2003, they have two children and reside in the metro-Detroit area, where she reads on her Kindle each night when her family falls asleep.
She is a member of Romance Writers of America and writes both women’s fiction and paranormal romance.

Paula Takes a Risk Book Review

I really really wanted to get into this book, but unfortunately I didn't really. I liked the idea of the story very much but I feel like the story was perhaps a bit rushed as it seemed to move from event to next event at an alarming pace. Perhaps I misunderstood the time frame that the story actually did take place over but it seemed like everything happened in a matter of a couple of months which seemed unlikely.
I did like that the characters had realistic flaws but I found that their naivete was a bit disconcerting as I can't see anyone being that extreme, but I suppose it's possible.
I think that this author has great potential though as there were many enjoyable aspects even if I didn't enjoy the story as a whole. I'd definitely look into her next work when it comes out.

Randi Sherman, a native Californian, lives in San Francisco. With her tremendous grasp of the obvious, Randi has always had the ability to find humor in the mundane and share the laughter. She dares to examine and discuss everyday foibles, which obliges people to stop taking themselves too seriously.
Developing characters and writing have been a part of Randi’s life since she was a teenager, umm-mmum-mumm years ago. She spent time performing stand-up comedy at Los Angeles club amateur nights and studied Improvisation in the Bay Area. Realizing that she preferred having an income, living indoors and eating regularly, she reluctantly put her dreams on hold and entered the corporate world, yet never left behind her sense of humor and creative storytelling ability, skills which were not always appreciated during budget and strategy meetings.
Now, after living indoors for a while and eating, albeit too much, her book, Paula Takes a Risk is here. Randi’s unique wit, writing style and candor will surely make the reader sit up, stand up, roll over or assume an interested leaning position and take notice.
Randi would never claim to have a genius IQ, the body of a super model or always have the right thing to wear. However, she can spell the words, “smart” and “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” Randi maintains a trim, well-toned body that is cleverly concealed beneath twenty pounds of soft protective layering and she has the appetite of a bird. (By “bird” I mean vulture.) Her entire wardrobe consists of black, black and varying degrees of black, except for those items that are covered with lint because she put them through the wash with a tissue.
Things that Randi cannot live without: people to laugh with, her car horn, a gym membership where there are chubby women who break into a sweat while putting on a jog bra, wine, waist capes, and her partner, Carol.
Randi does not like mean-spirited people, liver, left-overs, communal dressing rooms, tight underwear, and people who point.
Randi is five-foot-seven.

Pickin' Tomatoes Book Review

I enjoyed this tale though I really can't believe that someone doesn't know how to cook at all! I guess since it's always been a central factor of life for me and my family, that I just find it something natural to do.

That being said, I enjoyed this story of rebirth. Maggie was definitely a courageous character who did everything her way and making the most of her life instead of just staying in an unhappy, unfulfilling situation which is inspiring.

I think this is a story that was interest a lot of people with it's appeal on many levels, culinary or otherwise.

 J. W. Bull lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband and two sons. Although she has worked as a sous chef for Lavande Restaurant, she currently is a private violin teacher and a member of The Georgia Symphony. She is also finishing another novel, Musical Chairs, a mystery involving Maggie’s cousin—Molly Malone, plucky part-time symphony player and fulltime Irish fiddler. It’s a hilarious spoof on symphonies, Irish fiddling, and mysteries that continues the Malone saga.

The Cowboy Singer Book Review

Avery sweet debut really. Truly a pleasure to have read and I am happy that the author self published so we didn't have to miss out on this gem!

A lovely tale of love and romance with believable characters who have flaws and problems but that only adds to the complexity of their story. Wonderfully written, it was a book that I very much enjoyed the style of writing as well at the story itself!
